Η σημαντικότερη ανακοίνωση της Microsoft στην περασμένη CES 2012 ήταν ότι θα κυκλοφορήσει την 1η Φεβρουαρίου ο αισθητήρας Kinect για Windows PCs. Τελικά, τήρησε την υπόσχεση της και από εχθές είναι διαθέσιμος μαζί με το αντίστοιχο SDK!

Ο αισθητήρας μοιάζει εμφανισιακά με αυτόν που γνωρίζουμε από το Xbox 360, αλλά έχουν βελτιωθεί σημαντικά η δυνατότητα αναγνώρισης ήχου και ομιλίας, η αναγνώριση κινήσεων με ακρίβεια σε πολύ κοντινή απόσταση (μέχρι και 40cm!), η αναγνώριση-απεικόνιση του σωματότυπου κάθε χρήστη, ενώ παραμένει πανεύκολη η εγκατάσταση στον υπολογιστή για τον τελικό χρήστη.

Σύμφωνα με τη Microsoft, συνεργάζεται με περισσότερες από 300 διαφορετικές εταιρίες για τη δημιουργία εφαρμογών για Windows PCs που θα εκμεταλλεύονται τις δυνατότητες του αισθητήρα Kinect, ενώ φαίνεται ότι η τεχνολογία αυτή θα ενσωματωθεί σύντομα και σε κάποια laptops.
